About Gulliver Schools

Gulliver is a co-educational private college preparatory day school established in 1926 in Miami, Florida.  One of the largest independent schools in Florida, Gulliver enrolls more than 2,200 students in Grades PreK3-12 on four campuses. Our Mission is to create an academic community devoted to educational excellence, with a personal touch, that fulfills each student’s potential.

Job Summary

Gulliver  is seeking a School Counselor at the Preparatory (high school) campus for the 2020-2021 school year. This position will start in August of 2020.  This role will be focused on our 9th and 10th grade students, in partnership with one other School Counselor focused on grades 11 and 12, as well as with our Academic Dean, College Counseling staff, and faculty advisors.

At Gulliver, School Counselors take a holistic approach to working with students through personal support, social and emotional counseling, academic advising, and regular communication with students’ families and colleagues in the faculty, counseling staff, and administration.  The Preparatory campus is in its first year of divided School Counselor and College Counselor responsibilities, and direct school experience, especially in environments with excellent faculty advisory programming, is strongly preferred.

Counselors are expected to support and attend school events that are held within and occasionally outside regular school hours. The counseling team meets regularly both informally and formally, and has a highly collaborative structure and workflow.

Strong candidates will have a minimum of three years’ experience in school guidance or school counseling, preferably in an academically rigorous school, and will be credentialed mental health professionals.  Excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to conduct meetings in small and large groups; and the ability to communicate with groups and speak in public are also important. Candidates must be able to multitask, problem solve, and collaborate, as well as being decisive and creative thinkers. Master’s degree or higher in school counseling or a related educational field is strongly preferred.
