Job Summary

Gulliver Prep’s Middle School is seeking to hire a Counselor for the upcoming 2024- 25 school year.  Each of the Middle School Counselors are assigned to a grade, starting in fifth grade and following that group of students throughout their middle school years.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Mentor student progress, following through on action items and collaborating and consulting with faculty, administration, and families as needed. 
  • Review academic data to identify students in need of academic assistance. 
  • Provide responsive counseling, initiating short-term individual and small group support for students’ academic social and personal concerns. 
  • Participate in middle school student life by actively engaging in the community. 
  • Co-plan the curriculum for the Advisory Program and oversee the advisors in your grade-level.
  • Prepare topics and present for occasional parent or student meetings.  
  • Participate in program activities (e.g. orientation programs, open houses, faculty meetings, puberty education lessons, workshops, etc.). 
  • Supervise daily student activities (recess, lunch, grade-level meetings, arrival, dismissal) as well as supervise special events (field trips, dances, overnight grade-level trips). 
  • Be an active and engaged member of the middle school team. 
  • Attend and participate in meetings to discuss students in need of support. 
  • Meet with students and parents to provide academic, social and emotional support for students. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field; Master’s Degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of three years (3) experience as a mental health professional in a school setting. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze, interpret and explain student data and student evaluations and prescribe action for student improvement.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to conduct meetings in small and large groups.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter, problem-solver, and multi-tasker.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is beneficial. 

 

Pre-Employment Requirements

Criminal Background Check, Level II Fingerprint Screening(s), and Drug screen.
